Title: Magical Stories
Description: Sunday 2nd August, performances at 11am and 1pm MAGICAL STORIES – A WOODLAND PROMENADE PERFORMANCE WITH DOMINIC KELLY Master storyteller and performance artist Dominic traces his passion for folk tales and legends back to the rugged beauty of the Cumbrian Mountains where he grew up. He had a love of reading old tales and a freedom to explore the mountains from an early age. The combination of wild uplands and old legends gave him a powerful sense of the relationship between land, people, story and imagination that would once have defined how we saw the natural world, each other and ourselves. Dominic will be leading the audience on a magical woodland promenade through Samlesbury Hall gardens and woodlands, performing two bewitching tales to enchant and inspire everyone. Why not stay over for lunch at the award winning restaurant-café, or order a Palatine Lancashire picnic box (£6 adults / £4 children) to enjoy al-fresco when you book. Please note: If the weather is too inclement, performances will take place inside the Hall. 11am. THE RAVEN’S GIFT A prince saves the life of a raven and receives an extraordinary gift, but its misuse changes his son’s life forever. This is a tale of giants with barbed favours, a boy with impossible tasks, a girl with alchemy on her lips, and a horse with magic in its ear. Suitable for ages 8 – Adult. 1pm. NATURAL MAGIC Catch a glimpse of the natural world as our ancestors saw it: through the lens of magic and imagination, and preserved in the realm of story. In these folktales from around the globe, the worlds of animals and humans meet in the strangest ways, and things are seldom how they appear. Flexible: 30 – 50 minutes. Suitable for ages 6 – Adult.
