Title: A Summer of Archaeology in South Ribble
Description: The Spade Speaks - A Summer of Archaeology in South Ribble at the Museum and Exhibition Centre from Tuesday 12th June to 26th August 2012. Featuring Penwortham Priory - recent work below Penwortham Church, the Penwortham Castle finds (on loan from the Harris Museum) the medieval potting complex in Cuerdale and the Roman site at Walton le Dale. Featured this year are Penwortham Castle,Priory and Parish Church (2010 excavations) the Potter Lane Medieval potteries between Samlesbury and Walton (2002) Leyland's Roman Worden Hoard and the discovery of Preston's lost Friary (2007). There is a full programme of walks and talks celebrating the National Archaeology Festival (July 14 - 29) and the centre will be open on Sundays in July 1-4 pm - dates are 1st July 2012, 8th July 2012, 15th July 2012, 22nd July 2012, 29th July 2012 Saturday 16th June 2012 official opening 10.30 am. 11am Local History Walk 'Early Leyland' 2 miles with David Hunt.

Worden Arts Centre

Worden Arts Centre, Worden Park, Leyland has established itself as a stylish and friendly venue for plays and other productions since it opened in 1984. The Marsden Theatre has comfortable seating for up to 120 people and excellent technical facilities. The Conservatory Bar and Lounge, incorporating the work of over 20 local craftspeople, provides a visual interpretation of the concepts of theatre, music and dance. South Ribble Museum & Exhibition Centre, Church Road, Leyland is the venue for a lively programme of lectures and visiting exhibitions. The former schoolroom with its original beams and large ingle-nook fireplace provides a pleasant setting for displays by local organisations including an annual Schools Exhibition and a Borough Art Exhibition.
